CALL BIO CLEAN BEFORE BUYING A HOUSE. These guys literally saved us from buying a moldy house. We bought a mold free home & are so much happier/healthier than we would've been. The house didn’t look/smell like it would be moldy at all, but when our home inspector (Josh at Spotlight- epic job on his part so shoutout to him too) found a trace of mold, he recommended we get professionals out to test. This was absolutely critical in making an informed decision, turns out there was a MINIMUM of $4500 to abate. Bio Clean was extremely transparent that their estimate could easily be a fraction of what the actual abatement would cost once the entire wall was opened, depending on the extent of the issue. Long story short, thank GOD we didn’t move in there, and if we hadn’t called these guys I don’t know if another company would’ve been as thorough or as honest.

Blake and the team at BioClean provided me and my wife with outstanding and remarkably thorough and immediate attention to an incident in which a broken water tank had resulted in water damage in our house. They were on the job immediately, calmly assessed the situation, provided an explanation of what had occurred, and developed a detailed action plan that they began to implement the next day ... and that solved our problem quicker than we could have anticipated. They provided peace of mind for what could have been a very difficult situation. They are also very cost effective. While we obviously hope we won't need to use BioClean again, if we ever have another similar problem, they'd be the only firm we'd call. In short, we can't recommend them enough to anyone who needs assistance with the assessment and/or remediation of water damage.

Daryl reviewed the results of a mold test we had conducted by another company and then did a physical inspection of our property. He was responsive, thorough, and professional. Other than a couple of minor spots where he gave specific advice for cleaning up, he did not find we had a serious mold problem. He did not propose extensive repairs/remediation when not needed.

Daryl was able to come out quickly and review some mold issues in the crawl space under the house we purchased. His expertise helped us mitigate costs on closing and he provided avenues on how best to treat and fix the problem. He was timely, efficient, proactive, and very insightful. The written report was informative and provided the correct avenues for recourse. I can't thank him enough for all the help he provided. During the course of closing on our house, we somehow forgot to pay the bill for the inspection. They did not hound us and were very gracious when I realized we had somehow missed paying the bill. Gave Amy a quick call and everything was set straight. Thank you again for everything!

Bio Clean of Utah did an amazing job and thorough inspection of the mold issues I discovered in my condo. They explained the issue and possible causes for the problem in a very easy to understand way. I needed them fast as I was re-doing the floors in my condo and discovered the water damage covered up by the previous owner. They took care of the problem very quickly and professionally and made sure that everything in my place was protected while they were doing repairs. I highly recommend them for mold removal. Your search is over. Your peace of mind is just a phone call away. I just had a wonderful experience with Bio Clean. Daryl himself came to our house to do a mold inspection, and did a thorough job hunting for mold issues and patiently answered all my questions. We found mold in two areas that I did not even suspect. Much to my relief though, those were the only problem areas and they were so small, that Daryl told me honestly that it could easily be handled as a Do-It-Yourself project. He told me exactly what to do. AND, he even referred me to an air duct cleaning company close by and suggested I have my ducts cleaned for better air quality in the house. I highly recommend Bio Clean of Utah.

Understanding Fire And Water Damage In Utah Homes

Interior of an abandoned, rundown house with exposed wall studs, debris covering the floor, and a staircase leading upward. Sunlight shines through a window—an ideal candidate for restoration services Utah.

Utah homes face a unique mix of fire, smoke, and water risks. Dry summers, winter freezes, and rapid temperature swings all affect how damage spreads and how quickly it needs to be handled.

Our job is to step in quickly, stabilize the situation, and restore your property so it is safe to live or work in again.

Common Causes Of Fire Damage In Utah

Across the Salt Lake Valley, Provo, Bountiful, Centerville, and surrounding areas, we see a consistent set of fire damage causes:

  • Kitchen and cooking accidents

  • Space heaters placed too close to furniture or curtains

  • Electrical faults, overloaded circuits, or old wiring

  • Candles, fireplaces, and wood stoves

  • Garage fires from tools, fuel, or stored items

  • Wildfire-related smoke infiltration

A fire does more than burn what it touches. Smoke and soot travel through HVAC systems, wall cavities, and attics. Even a “small” contained fire can leave a sticky, corrosive residue throughout the entire home. That is why our fire and smoke damage services focus on the whole structure, not just the visibly burned area.

How Utah’s Climate Affects Water And Smoke Damage

Utah’s climate creates two big restoration challenges.

First, we have very dry air much of the year, but also heavy snow, ice, and sudden thaws in winter. That combination leads to:

  • Ice damming on roofs that forces water under shingles

  • Sudden pipe bursts during deep freezes

  • Rapid snowmelt that sends water into basements and crawlspaces

We have specialized services for situations like ice damming and winter water damage, because the longer water sits hidden, the more likely you are to see mold and structural issues later.

Second, smoke behaves differently in dry air at high altitude. Soot can penetrate porous materials more deeply and smoke odor can be tougher to remove. Our smoke odor removal methods and equipment are chosen specifically for Utah homes and building materials so we can tackle stubborn smells without over-demolishing.

If you want a deeper look at how water events unfold here, our guide on what to do immediately after water damage explains timing and risk in more detail.

Hidden Structural And Health Risks After A Loss

What you see after a fire or flood is only part of the story. The hidden issues are what cost homeowners the most in the long run:

  • Compromised framing or roof members from fire, excessive heat, or long-term moisture

  • Smoke and soot inside wall cavities and HVAC systems that continue to circulate irritants and odor

  • Wet insulation, subfloors, and drywall that look dry on the surface but still hold moisture

  • Mold growth beginning within 24 to 48 hours in damp materials

Our team uses professional moisture meters, thermal imaging, and detailed inspections. We tie that into our Utah mold inspection and testing protocols so you are not left with a “restored” home that still has hidden contamination or structural weakness.

Why Immediate Professional Restoration Matters

Damaged wall with peeling paint at the base, next to a wooden skirting board and wood-patterned floor—ideal for professional water damage restoration Utah services.

The decisions made in the first 24 to 72 hours after a fire or water loss usually determine how extensive the damage becomes and how much the claim will cost.

How Fast Response Reduces Damage And Costs

Time is your biggest enemy after a fire or water event.

With water, porous materials start absorbing moisture immediately. Within a day or two, that can turn a minor leak into a major demolition project. Professional extraction and drying can often save:

  • Drywall and trim

  • Cabinets and built-ins

  • Flooring systems and subfloors

We built our emergency water damage response service around this exact reality. Fast action means less secondary damage, less mold, and a faster rebuild.

With fire, acidic soot begins corroding metals and discoloring surfaces within hours. The sooner we neutralize, clean, and seal affected areas, the more we can save and the better your long-term indoor air quality will be.

Why Professional Restoration Is Safer Than DIY

Online videos and hardware store equipment make restoration look easy. It isn’t.

Here is what most DIY efforts miss:

  • Hidden moisture that standard fans and dehumidifiers simply cannot reach

  • Electrical and structural hazards that are not obvious to an untrained eye

  • Improper cleaning of soot and smoke that smears contamination instead of removing it

  • Inadequate mold prevention, leading to bigger problems months later

Our services are designed to do what DIY cannot. We follow IICRC standards, use commercial extraction and drying equipment, and document moisture readings from start to finish. For example, our professional restoration after flood resource goes into the professional steps required to truly restore a flooded space.

Working With Insurance During A Fire Or Water Claim

Trying to manage a loss, deal with contractors, and handle an insurance claim on your own is overwhelming.

We help you by:

  • Documenting all damage with photos, notes, and readings

  • Providing clear estimates and scope of work for your adjuster

  • Communicating directly with your insurance when appropriate

  • Helping you understand what is typically covered and what may not be

We have seen the pitfalls of using only “insurance preferred” vendors. Our article on issues with using insurance preferred vendors explains why having an advocate on your side matters.

If you are dealing with a disaster claim now, our guide on dealing with a disaster insurance claim offers clear, Utah-specific context that can help you ask the right questions.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Process

Fire damage restoration is as much about safety and air quality as it is about rebuilding. Here is how we typically approach a fire loss.

A section of wall with severe water damage and mold next to a concrete floor; a vacuum hose and bucket are visible near a water heater in the background, highlighting the need for professional water damage restoration Utah.

Emergency Board Up And Site Stabilization

First, we focus on securing and stabilizing your property. That can include:

  • Board up of doors, windows, and openings

  • Roof tarping to prevent rain or snow from entering

  • Temporary shoring if fire or water has weakened structural members

This step protects your home from weather, theft, and additional damage so we can move into detailed cleaning and repair.

Smoke, Soot, And Odor Removal

Smoke is invasive. It finds its way into drawers, closets, attics, and HVAC systems.

We use a combination of:

  • HEPA air filtration and negative air machines

  • Specialized vacuums and dry-chem sponges for soot removal

  • Detergent-based cleaning for affected hard surfaces

  • Odor counteractants and, when appropriate, thermal fogging or hydroxyl treatment

Our guide on 7 crucial steps in fire smoke damage cleanup breaks down why each part of this process matters. For tough smoke odor situations, we also rely on the techniques outlined in our article on whether you can get rid of smoke smell after a fire.

Cleaning, Repairs, And Reconstruction

Once soot and odor are under control, we move into restoring your structure and contents. That may include:

  • Cleaning and deodorizing salvageable contents

  • Removing and replacing charred building materials

  • Repairing or reconstructing damaged rooms or sections

Our goal is always the same: a safe, clean, and comfortable space that feels like home again. As part of our broader comprehensive disaster cleanup and restoration services, we coordinate scheduling, trades, and inspections so you don’t have to juggle multiple contractors.

Our Water Damage Restoration Process

Water damage jobs look simple from the outside, but the details matter. Proper extraction, drying, and verification protect you from future structural issues and mold.

A burnt kitchen with blackened walls, damaged stove, and scorched toaster, showing extensive fire damage and smoke damage requiring professional fire damage restoration in Utah.

Inspection, Moisture Detection, And Damage Assessment

We start with a detailed inspection of the affected areas, including:

  • Moisture readings in walls, floors, and ceilings

  • Checking adjacent rooms and levels for hidden spread

  • Identifying the water source and category (clean, gray, or black water)

This information shapes the drying plan and helps support your insurance claim. If your ceiling has been affected, we may recommend our professional ceiling water damage repair in Utah service to make sure structural and cosmetic issues are both resolved.

Water Extraction, Drying, And Dehumidification

Next, we remove as much liquid water as possible using professional extraction equipment, then set up a drying system tailored to your property.

That can involve:

  • Powerful truck-mounted or portable extractors

  • High-velocity air movers

  • Commercial-grade dehumidifiers

Our water damage restoration services are built around IICRC S500 standards so drying is efficient, documented, and verifiable.

If you are curious how long a project might take, our resources on how long it takes to dry out a flooded basement and how much water damage restoration costs in Utah share realistic timelines and cost factors.

Mold Prevention And Structural Drying

Left unchecked, moisture leads directly to mold. That is why we coordinate closely between our water and mold damage cleanup services in Utah.

We focus on:

  • Getting structural materials below target moisture levels

  • Removing materials that cannot be safely dried

  • Treating at-risk areas and monitoring for potential microbial growth

With Utah’s moisture cycles changing, homeowners are seeing more mold issues after even “minor” water damage. Our article on rising moisture cycles and increasing mold risks explains why thorough drying and prevention matter so much.

Cleaning, Sanitizing, And Final Restoration

Once everything is dry and stable, we clean and sanitize affected areas, then move into repairs and final restoration. Depending on the loss, this may include:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting floors, walls, and contents

  • Odor control as needed

  • Reinstalling trim, doors, and finishes

  • Coordinating with our rebuild partners for any reconstruction

From flooded basements in Provo to pipe leaks in Salt Lake City, our local water damage cleanup services and wider service network across Utah are built to get you from emergency to finished restoration without unnecessary delays.

Choosing A Utah Restoration Specialist

Not all restoration companies operate the same way. Asking the right questions upfront protects you, your home, and your claim.

Licensing, Certification, And Local Experience

When you bring a team into your home after a disaster, you should expect:

  • Proper state licensing where required

  • IICRC certifications in water, fire, and mold

  • General liability and, where applicable, workers’ compensation insurance

  • Real experience with Utah’s climate, building styles, and local codes

We have spent years serving homes and businesses along the Wasatch Front. Our about us page highlights our story, our certifications, and why we focus on compassionate service as much as technical skill.

What To Ask Before You Hire A Restoration Company

Here are a few smart questions we encourage you to ask any restoration provider, including us:

  • How quickly can you respond to my property?

  • Are your technicians IICRC certified?

  • Will you provide written estimates and moisture readings?

  • How do you work with insurance adjusters?

  • Do you also handle mold if it is discovered during the project?

If a company cannot answer these clearly, that is a red flag.

To get a sense of the depth we bring to mold-related issues, explore our mold remediation services in Utah. The same care and standards are applied to all of our fire and water damage work.

How A Full Service Team Simplifies Recovery

Disasters are stressful. You should not have to coordinate five different contractors to get your home back.

Because we offer integrated services including fire, water, and blood and crime scene cleanup, we can:

  • Manage your project from emergency response through final cleanup

  • Keep communication and documentation in one place

  • Reduce delays between phases of work

That full-service approach saves you time, reduces confusion, and usually helps your claim move more smoothly.

Fire and Water Damage Restoration in Utah – FAQs

Fire and water damage restoration in Utah is a certified process to make your property safe and livable again after a loss. It typically includes emergency board‑up or tarping, water extraction and structural drying, soot and smoke odor removal, cleaning and sanitizing, and repairs or reconstruction as needed.
You should contact a professional restoration company in Utah immediately—ideally within the first few hours and no later than 24–72 hours. Fast response limits mold growth, structural damage, and smoke corrosion, often saving drywall, flooring, and cabinets while also helping keep your insurance claim costs under control.
Most standard homeowners policies cover sudden and accidental fire and water damage restoration in Utah, such as burst pipes or kitchen fires. Gradual issues, poor maintenance, or groundwater seepage may be excluded. It’s important to review your policy, document all damage, and work closely with your adjuster and restoration contractor.
DIY cleanup after fire or water damage is risky. Homeowners often miss hidden moisture, structural or electrical hazards, and improperly clean soot, which can spread contamination and allow mold to grow. Certified Utah restoration professionals follow IICRC standards, use commercial equipment, and document drying to ensure your home is truly safe.
Costs vary widely based on damage size, affected materials, and whether structural repairs are needed. Minor water incidents may be a few thousand dollars; major fires or floods can reach tens of thousands. Drying often takes 3–7 days, while full repairs and rebuilds can range from several weeks to a few months.
